Locating the correct place for your business is of huge importance, but while many will spend time formulating other business strategies they may neglect the process of finding the right location.

Here are some of the more common errors made by businesses when leasing offices:

* Location does not suit your businesses image: Appearances are important, especially if you are client facing. You tend to find wacky ad agencies will have ‘crazy’ office to suit there ethos, while this kind of office would probably not suit a private equity firm for example. Decide on the image you want to portray and then find an office that reflects that.

* Think ahead: Although your office suits your business now, what about in a few years time – how much more space will you need? Consider the possible effect on the morale of staff over choosing a remote location or what potential clients may think if you are the only business outside the city centre.
* Bad layout: There correct layout and atmosphere of an office should not be underestimated. If you want the staff and each department to liaise with each other then opt for an open plan office, but if your business requires a lot of privacy this will not be suitable.
* Remember about the hidden costs: Many businesses assume that once they can cover the greatest monthly cost, e.g the rent, then all other costs will be peripheral, but these can soon mount up and will include all business rates, the heating, lighting, furnishing, insurance and on. This a major reason why renting a serviced office is proving such a great option for businesses, as all the costs are included in the monthly fee that you pay for your office.
